Hi, my name is Katie Forster, I am from Sydney and in 2019 I was given the chance to experience Space Camp. I’ve always been interested in space and ever since I knew space camp existed I had wanted to go. The trip really pushed me out of my comfort zone, traveling to the other side of the world for a week, and not knowing anyone else in the group. But it also planted me right in the middle of a bunch of kids that were all interested in the same thing as me. Never before had I been able to talk to someone else my age about the space shuttle program, or the Cassini–Huygens satellite for more than 2 minutes.
I think one of the most important things my new friends and I learned from Space Camp, other than how to build an effective heat shield, space history, astronaut health and how to build a rocket; was the ability to work together with the people around you, and take advantage of each others strengths and weaknesses. I aim to become a good problem solver and engineer, Space camp really gave me the chance to put that to the test and grow as a person.
