What is it?

The Connecting Minds Project is a flexible, purpose driven education program that focuses on networking, problem solving and cutting-edge space Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research.

Educators will partner globally and groups of students from their respective schools will work cooperatively on their ‘space mission’.

Their innovative collaborations and initiatives will be targeted at skill development, building global networks and cultural understanding.

Why is it important?

The main aim of The Connecting Minds project is to build STEM skills capability and capacity of students and educators across countries to improve the global uptake of space and high-tech STEM careers.

This process will encourage diversity, problem solving, critical and creative thinking, innovation, team building and cooperation in the workforce of tomorrow.

Mission Control

Individualised support and guidance for each project will be provided by The Connecting Minds Project team from One Giant Leap Australia.
After selection and teaming with another international school, the teams will undertake a three-stage process:

When is the next mission?

Mission 1 will run from February to September, 2025.

Can boys participate?

Everyone can participate.

How many students in a team?

Minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5.

Are schools able to have more than one team?

Schools may choose how many teams they wish.

Can this be run during school or after school?

Depending on global time zones, school requirements and student availability – schools may choose how this program operates for them.

Can my child sign up as an individual?

No – this program is run by schools only.

What else is included?

The program will include 5 teleconferences from global space industry professionals such as astronauts, scientists, engineers and flight directors.

What about holidays or our curriculum?

Provision in each mission will be made for educational and local requirements such as holidays, exams and curriculum-based activities.

Who can be involved?

All schools from Elementary/Primary through to High School.

Home schooling groups can join if they have enough for a group and have an adult leader.

Participating Australian teams will have the opportunity to present their project at the Osaka Expo with their Japanese partners!

Teams will have the opportunity to stay in Osaka and enjoy a tour of educational and cultural sites of the city organised by One Giant Leap Australia before enjoying the World Expo and presenting their project reports.

Tour itinerary includes:
A day at Universal Studios Osaka
Osaka Castle visit
Osaka Science Museum
Osaka Aquarium
Tour of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine
Minoo Park
Shitennoji Temple
3 days touring and presenting at Osaka Expo And much more!

The tour costs are estimated at AUD $7500 per person.

(Price is subject to change in availability, inflation, currency fluctuations and is intended as a good faith estimate of goods and service charges)

(Note: Tour includes a set list of flights, accommodation, and experiences. Any deviations are at the discretion of the participants and extra costs are bourn by them. Any teams/participants wishing to visit partner schools must organise any extra transport/accommodation and incur the extra charges, and must have a chaperone accompany. OGL staff are unable to accompany students on these excursions)
