One Giant Leap Australia Foundation presents Aerospace Camp West Wyalong as part of the New South Wales Government’s Our Region, Our Voice – Regional Youth Investment Program.

Aerospace Camp West Wyalong will bring STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and aerospace education to young people in the Bland Local Government Area. Thanks to the support of the NSW government, attendance at Aerospace Camp West Wyalong is completely free of charge for all participants.

Over four days and three nights, students attending Aerospace Camp West Wyalong will experience activities that are immersive, interactive, fun and have an underlying emphasis on wellbeing and the development of employability skills including team building, creativity and problem solving.

2nd to 5th June, 2024

The program includes:

  • Astronomy and the Australian night sky
  • Australia’s contributions to space exploration
  • Artemis Missions to the Moon and Mars
  • Designing and building galactic habitats
  • Designing, building and launching a variety of Rockets,
  • Constructing, driving and exploring a range of Rovers
  • Problem solving challenges utilising Robotics
  • Living and working sustainably on the Moon and Mars
  • History of Space travel and exploration

They will need to:

  • Complete the submission form.
  • Upload a support letter from their school principal.
  • Upload a letter from their parent/guardian supporting their application.
  • Upload a video of themselves explaining why they should be selected for this life changing opportunity.

Each camp has 32 places for students aged 12 to 14. One Giant Leap Australia Foundation will work with local schools and community organisations to identify potential camp attendees, who will be fully accommodated over the four-day program. Participants will be identified and selected by set criteria such as regional school enrolment, address, and interest.

Aerospace Camp West Wyalong will be delivered during the school term and is a curriculum-based program. The combination of lessons and talks by various experts and practical problem-solving scenarios will lead to some very exciting days. Immersive activities incorporate problem solving, team building, design processes, critical and creative thinking whilst raising the students’ awareness of the breadth of STEM.

Participants work with and experience technologies such as flight simulators, robotics, drones and virtual reality headsets which they usually do not have regular, or any, access to.

All participants will be strongly encouraged to freely contribute to the discussions during the planning, design and building phases of the activities. Participants meet new people and make new friends to broaden their networking skills. Everyone is made to feel comfortable being surrounded by like-minded people who share their interests in STEM.

Presentations by STEM specialists, especially in the space and aerospace fields, will provide insight about professionals working in the industry, encouraging students interested in STEM to pursue related subjects at school and/or select STEM career pathways.

Aerospace Camp is proudly funded by the Office for Regional Youth, part of the Department of Regional NSW.
