Hi! My name is Michael. In 2018 I was awarded a partial scholarship to attend Space Camp in the USA with One Giant Leap Australia.
The experiences and friends made while on camp were unique and unforgettable. We were pushed outside of our comfort zones; encouraged to challenge ourselves, encouraged to learn, and encouraged to grow to become better people. Space Camp exceeded all of my wildest expectations.
Nothing can parallel the experience of walking underneath the thrusters of a Saturn V rocket suspended from above, looking upwards with the same awe as the first astronauts as they gazed up at their vehicle to the stars.
At Space Camp, awe is a feeling you will very much get used to.
Our trip also included visits to Northrop Grumman, the California Science Centre, Disneyland and Universal Studios. I was a little envious of the 2019 Cohort who got inside access to The Spaceship Company and observed the James Webb Space Telescope fully extended. The tour seems to get even better every year, it seems!
I was surprised most at the diversity and inclusiveness of the space industry. Its breadth is almost incomprehensible, spanning most jobs and professions. No matter your skills or your passions, there is a job in the industry for you. The Space Camp Tour is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the opportunities out there and to gain a glimpse of what your future could look like.
Being someone with a passion for technology and what could be considered a dangerous level of curiosity, the opportunity to attend Space Camp was irresistible. As an entrepreneur, I was also able to closely connect to Jackie and Bob who have much experience, enthusiasm and wisdom to offer on all things.
If you’re someone currently sitting on the fence: just go. The Space Camp Tour will be one of the most exciting times of your life.
