One Giant Leap Australia Foundation presents Aerospace Camp Scone as part of the New South Wales Government’s Regional Youth – Children and Young People Wellbeing Recovery Initiative.
Aerospace Camp Scone will bring STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and aerospace education to young people in the Upper Hunter Local Government Area (LGA).
Thanks to the support of the NSW government, attendance at Aerospace Camp Scone is completely free of charge for all participants. The camp is being held at Scone Motor Inn, Apartments and Conference Centre.
Over four days and three nights, students attending Aerospace Camp Scone will experience activities that are immersive, interactive, fun and have an underlying emphasis on wellbeing and the development of employability skills including team building, creativity and problem solving.
The program includes:
The opportunity is open now and the deadline for submissions is midnight 2nd May, 2023 AEST.
The camp has 32 places for students in Year 5 to Year 8. One Giant Leap Australia Foundation will work with the local schools and community to identify camp attendees, who will be fully accommodated over the four-day program.
Aerospace Camp Scone will be delivered during the school term and is a curriculum-based program. The combination of lessons and talks by various experts and practical problem-solving scenarios will lead to some very exciting days. Immersive activities incorporate problem solving, team building, design processes, critical and creative thinking whilst raising the students’ awareness of the breadth of STEM.
Participants work with and experience technologies such as flight simulators, robotics, drones, and virtual reality headsets which they usually do not have regular, or any, access to.
Presentations by STEM specialists, especially in the space and aerospace fields, will provide insight about professionals working in the industry, encouraging students interested in STEM to pursue related subjects at school and/or select STEM career pathways.
The Aerospace Camp program is proudly funded by the Office for Regional Youth, part of the Department of Regional NSW.
To apply for this life changing camp, students must be 12 to 14 years old at the date of the camp and currently enrolled in one of the following schools:
